- Priced per location rather than per user, which gets cheap fast if you have one address and lots of staff.
- Payroll is a separate add-on at $39/month plus $6 per employee paid.
- The free plan is capped at one location.
The interesting thing here is the pricing model. Homebase charges by location, so a single-site business with fifteen employees pays $30 a month on Essentials no matter how many people you add. Connecteam charges by user above the free tier, so the same business pays more as it grows.
Flip it around and the logic reverses. A cleaning company sending crews to thirty different homes has no single location to price against, and Connecteam is built for exactly that shape of business.
What we would not bother with
- Enterprise workforce platforms. Deputy, When I Work and similar tools are capable, and they are priced for businesses several times your size. At under ten people you will pay for a compliance and forecasting layer you never open.
- A field-service platform used as a scheduler. Buying Housecall Pro or Jobber to solve a staff scheduling problem costs several times more than a crew app and leaves most of the product unused. Take the readiness quiz if you are not sure which problem you actually have.
- Anything with a setup fee at this size. There is a free tier that covers you. Do not pay to be onboarded onto it.
Our honest read
If you are under ten employees, both realistic options cost nothing, so pick on shape rather than price. One address means Homebase. Crews moving between sites means Connecteam.
If you are over ten and running from a single location, Homebase at $24 a month billed annually is hard to argue with. If your people are spread out, Connecteam is worth its money and we would stay put.

Homebase, if you run one location. Its free Basic plan covers up to 10 employees with scheduling and time tracking, same headcount as Connecteam's free tier. Why would I switch away from Connecteam at all?
Three reasons come up. You have one address and a lot of staff, where per-location pricing beats per-user pricing. You want payroll bundled in rather than run separately. Or you need estimates and invoices, which no crew app does, and you actually want field-service software.
Is there a paid alternative worth the money under 10 employees?
Honestly, no. Connecteam and Homebase both give you a real free tier at that size. Paying for a crew app with fewer than ten people usually means you have been sold something, or you have a specific requirement neither free tier covers.
